‘Heroes’ and ‘Nashville’ star Hayden Panettiere passes at 36

Hollywood actress Hayden Panettiere, best known for her roles in Heroes and Nashville, has died at the age of 36.

Her family confirmed her death through a statement released by her father, Skip Panettiere, who described the actress as an “incredible light” and a force of nature who brought love and joy to those around her.

Panettiere died on Sunday, August 16, 2026. The circumstances surrounding her death have not been disclosed, although reports say an investigation is ongoing.

She rose to international fame after playing cheerleader Claire Bennet in the hit television series Heroes. She later starred as country music singer Juliette Barnes in Nashville, a role that earned her two Golden Globe nominations.

Her film credits included Remember the Titans, Scream 4, I Love You, Beth Cooper and other productions. She also lent her voice to animated projects and video games during her career.

Beyond her work in entertainment, Panettiere was open about her struggles with postpartum depression, addiction and recovery. She used her platform to discuss mental health and advocate for causes including animal welfare and environmental protection.

The actress had an 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, with her former partner, Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko. In 2018, Panettiere agreed for Kaya to live primarily with Klitschko while she focused on her recovery, a decision she later described as being made in her daughter’s best interest.

Her death comes three years after the passing of her younger brother, actor Jansen Panettiere, who died in 2023 at the age of 28.

Panettiere’s death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues mourning an actress whose career spanned more than three decades.
